Abstract
Sudden sensorineural hearing loss has not been fully verified in terms of etiology and pathophysiology. The treatment regimen is also controversial so far, but usually focussed on the improvement of the circulatory impairment in the inner ear.
Clinical analysis was performed in 62 patients (67 ears) with sudden hearing loss admitted in Kyungpook University Hospital from May 1992 to April 1994 after combined therapy with steroid, low molecular weight dextran and stellate ganglion
blocks.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) Accompanying symptoms were following in order; tinnitus, ear fullness, vertigo and headache.
2) Complete recovery was seen in 10 cases out of 62 patients (14.9%), partial recovery in 17 cases (25.4%), slight recovery in 14 cases (20.9%), and no response in 26 cases (38.8%).
3) Profound type was most common at initial audiogram and ascending type had the best recovery rate followed by flat, descending and profound type in order.
4) Patients treated within 1 week from the onset of symptoms showed better recovery than those treated after 1 week.
5) The results suggest that there is no significant difference between this combined therapy and others. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:8, 1995)
